Brian Batista enthralled Pivot members with an extremely lively – and more than occasionally risqué – history lesson on animation.  We started with cave drawings, skipped on to the Victorian era when animation really took off, and then finished with a love-hate nod to Walt Disney and Brian’s recommendations of must-sees in the Watch Me Move exhibit.  Brian brought us toys too – flip books and zoetropes – which proved to be just as captivating as the 111 films in the show.  Afterwards, Brian joined Pivot upstairs in the Watch Me Move galleries to chat with Pivot members over sushi and sake as we all explored this immense and exciting exhibit. What a fun evening!

If you haven’t visited Watch Me Move yet, you should go!  It’s a terrific show.  My favourite films (so far) are the Adventures of Prince Achmed and Tango.  And to pass on Brian’s tips – don’t miss Gertie the Dinosaur and Akira.

We hope Brian will join us at more of our events!

Special thanks to Enbridge for their ongoing support of Pivot’s Encounter the Arts series.
